We ordered Panang Curry ($9.95) and Pepper Beef ($8.95) for lunch with intent to share them between us. The Panang Curry Chicken was creamy (with coconut milk), flavored with lime, and hot from curry. Though it was a bit too spicy hot for my taste and tolerance, my companion found its heat "fiery" but tolerably so. The Pepper Beef was different from one typically finds at a Chinese restaurants, the most notable difference was the brown sauce was sweet. Our waiter was polite and very attentive. All said and done, though, we found our food unremarkable compared to the other Thai places we have been. "Meh, I've experienced better" actually is the ideal phrase that would summarize our visit.

This is my favorite Thai restaurant. There might be prettier restaurants but Tasty thai has always been consistent. My favorite dish there is Spicy Basil Beef. Its has the perfect amount of hot combined with great flavor. The owner always asks how your food is. The waiter David is always on top of things. If you want a great meal at a fair price. Go to Tasty Thai. You will enjoy it!

Went here for lunch a couple days ago with a work colleague. I am always a little bit nervous about trying new buffets, especially when it is something other than American food. This place was a great find by my colleague. I had several pieces of the crab rangoon appetizer which were just as good as I have had elsewhere. For lunch I had a few of their curry selections one tofu and one chicken and they were both very good. They also served a breaded spicy chicken dish, I do have to admit I was very hesitant on trying. Sometimes you get some pretty gummy, nasty, who knows where the parts came to make this nugget up kind of chicken. This was by far my favorite thing that I tried, it was the perfect amount of crunch and wasn't any of the above. I had two helpings of this. Our waiter was good and gave us several refills on our drinks. The overall decor is interesting to say the least. All in all very reasonable for lunch and I am looking forward to going back!

Always a great meal. Not just good, but GREAT! I eat here about once a month with family and have always had a wonderful meal. The Sesame Peanut Chicken is my new favorite. It's a small place hidden in a strip mall. The furnishings are older, but the place is very clean. The waitstaff is very friendly and accommodating. Prices are low for your average sit down restaurant. Dinner for 3 adults (without alcoholic beverages) was under $40 with enough left over for a second meal at home! They have a lunch buffet, but I have never tried this. I highly recommend this to anyone that enjoys Thai food. Favorites: Sesame Peanut Chicken, Spicy Eggplant, Spicy Thai Shrimp, Mus-su-mun Curry

I have been looking for a great Thai restaurant since moving back from Chicago for awhile. I stumbled across this restaurant, and I absolutely love it!! I have been here a few times and already have favorites. I love their shrimp dumpling (shumai) and Pu Thong (Crab Rangoon) appetizers. They are amazing! Also love the Pad Se Ew. I will be coming back here a lot!!

Are you people on drugs? The worse experience - ever - for a Thai restaurant. We had to send back our egg rolls which were greasy and undercooked (cold). The beef in Beef With Broccoli was tough and rubbery. The seasoning in the Spicy Noodles were burnt and hastily reheated. Do yourself a favor and avoid at all cost.

I like it a lot. Nothing fancy and I would come back. Good prices and decent food. The buffet was really good! I see a lot of mixed reviews but its a strip mall thai rest... you have to put ur expectations down. For that reason this greasy spoon is the bomb!

the buffet isnt very good. the sushi is terrible. i stick with the basil fried rice and mixed vege/tofu dish and am always content

  • Daniel D L.

I've never tried ordering from their menu. The buffet has too few choices (Usually just 8 serving trays), the food is usually cold, not spicy, not very flavorful, and a wee bit relying on grease. It's been going downhill since I've been coming here a few years ago. So many other choices in the area. Tasty Thai, it's not me, it's you.

This place has an authentic feel. The service is fantastic, and the food is yummy. I lived in Thailand for four years so I have high expectations of Thai food and Tasty Thai did not dissapoint me. My boyfriend talked this place up for a long time before we finally tried it, and I was very satisfied by my entire experience. We went for the lunch buffet. I was excited to eat the buffet because I had never been to Tasty Thai before and I thought the buffet would be a good way to get a feel for the place and the food. The owner sincerely cared about his customers and made customer service his number one priority. The Chili Chicken was delicous, and I really enjoyed the Mee Krob too. Go and eat at the lunch buffet, you will be glad you did!

We had several items for carry out recently, and were very impressed overall The penang curry sauce was exceptional. It could have used a bit more chicken, but it was outstanding! Pad Thai was good, as was the curry fried rice with chicken. We will definitely be back--very good food, great people.

I have been eating at Tasty Thai for 5+ years & it has never failed me! The restaurant's interior is nothing special, but that's not why I frequent the place. The food is fantastic & the owner is very kind & knows his repeat guests. Portion sizes from the menu items are somewhat small for the price. However, the lunch buffet is the best deal around with some of the best Thai food I've ever eaten!

I think they have the wrong website for this restaurant? I hope this is the right one haha its next to BoBo's. vernonhillstastythai.com But anyways I LOVE THE FOOD HERE! Its always sooo good, it really is...yum! I recommend anyone to eat here! You wont regret it!

We went there as adjacent Moroccan r restaurant was closed. First impression after getting in was not very pleasant. It is very basic interiors. Seems yo have older one. The food was not great. The place was manned by only two guys. They serve lunch buffet and we opted for that. The two guys failed to met the expectation of cleaning eaten dirty dishes quickly. Dishes were lying on our table for more than five minutes. We had to call them asking for cleanup. I'm not going there again and would not recommend to friends.

Good lunch buffet at a reasonable price. Food is fresh and hot. Owner and staff are very friendly and drink refills are timely.

This is about avg for thai food. I had the kai pad entree(8.95) which was like I said avg. I kicked it up a notch with the spicey sauce provided. But all in all...cant' complain.

Only place I would get pad thai from in the Vernon Hills / Libertyville area. I don't eat there but the lunch buffet always looks "tasty"

One of my lunch companions said it best, two words that they are not, "Tasty Thai" . Food was average much like any fast food Chinese buffet. Weren't many dishes and not one that wowed us. The appetizers where meager in taste, the beef dish it's meat was chewy and the pad Thai seemed composed of noodle and sugary catsup. Note the different spelling, catsup in my experience has always been sugary ketchup. The experience was forgettable; much like their atmosphere. Went for lunch on a Friday was surprised to find it busy, but if you know the area you know about Saffron the Indian buffet next door, I would guess that some of these folks were spill over. Daily lunch buffet is $7.95. If you go, I'd suggest ordering from the menu. Maybe it's better? I live in Chicago and can get awesome Thai food anytime, so, I don't think I'll have "seconds". Menu reads " Contemporary Thai dining, with an exquisite Thai touch." The layout of the dining area, the buffet line food, the feeling in our tummies afterwards; spells out typical fast food Asian buffet. No exquisite touch here. Once leaving I asked my lunch group about their thoughts and we started out at 2.5 stars, but as the afternoon set in and our tummies felt plight. We arrive at 2 stars.

A select few choices, but each one is perfect and always cooked the same great way! Perfect lunch spot for a small group of 4 or 5

Lunch buffet is cheap, tastes good, but very few selections. Make sure which dish has peanut, in case someone has allergy to nuts. Service is good too. Very nice location in Vernon Hills

I don't know if this was the absolute worst thai I've ever eaten but it wasn't the greatest. Might have been an omen but my daughter said the place creeped her out-totally empty at dinnertime. I explained that this was a strip mall restaurant on a week day evening...still creepy. We ordered beef lard nar, beef pad sie ewe and panang fried rice w/ chicken. The beef in both dishes was like shoe leather-one reviewer thought it was bottom round...I agree! The noodles were tasty but on the dry side, not enough vegetables in either the pad sie ewe or the lard nar. The panang curry fried rice with chicken wasn't bad, just spicy enough without flaming my bowels the next day. The chicken was tender but had an odd texture, like it was brined. I thought the portions were a tad too small and they didn't give any jasmine rice on the side. I doubt we'll be back here, there are better places to be sure but this was on the way home.

This a small but very good place. me and my workmates go there quite often for Lunch Buffet. The food is really really good for the price. The food is always fresh and the staff is very nice too. This place definitely worth trying.

Best Thai food in the Buffalo Grove / Vernon Hills area. They also have easy online ordering, just don't have the link on their website. here'sthe link. If you check their Facebook page, once in a while it shows some online coupons, too. Food order link is here m.mobitreat.com/T/600610…

No complaints, just not stellar. If I had to get carryout, I would rather get it from Green Basil.

I was introduced to this place by one of my friends a couple of years ago,and have been coming here since when I am in the area. Their lunch buffet is good, prices affordable. The owner is very nice. Overall can't complain:)

I am dropping Tasty Thai to two stars after my last couple of lunches there. It seems that the food quality has dropped precipitously and now comes with new higher prices. I may give them another try later in the year to see if it was just a fluke and I just hit them on a couple of bad days, but if this is the new normal here I won't be back.

Tasty Thai is okay. Not nearly as good as Thai Noodles in Libertyville, but it's decent. They're open on Sundays, and Thai Noodles is not. The best time to go is during lunch, when they have the buffet out. It costs about $6.95. There's usually fried rice, white rice, pad thai, some different kinds of curry, and some other random dishes. It would be nice if they were labeled. They're pretty good about having a good mix of dishes out with chicken, beef, shrimp and some without meat. There's also some kind of mini eggrolls, vegetable tempura, some kind of soup, and cantaloupe. They're very diligent about refilling things. The buffet is the best option here, but rest of the menu is good too. Not excellent, but certainly edible. I don't care for their Pad See Ewe very much, as I would rather have broccoli than collard greens. Celiacs should probably stay away from the buffet, but the pad thai ordered off the menu there seems to be fine.

  • Kevin S.

Let me start by saying their PAD SEE EIW chicken, spicy is pretty darn good. I order this several times a week and they're very consistant with it (as they should since I order it all the time) and the portions are very large. Their service over the phone and in restaurant is good. They are very friendly and accomodating if you have a large party. The lunch buffet for $6.95 on weekdays is pretty good as well. They do a good job in mixing it up so its not the same everyday. I would definitely recommend this place and if you are there on weekdays for dinner, you have a good chance of seeing me around 7pm. =)

  • Justin G.

I went for the lunch buffet for $6.95. It wasn't bad. Matt K. is right that the curry chicken isn't the greatest, but I didn't find it bad. It just seemed a little watered down, literally. There was a ton of water in it, but it was good when the juice went into the fried rice. The other dishes were good and it seemed like they had their own subtle and unique taste in this restaurant, which isn't really good or bad. I also had a Thai Iced tea, and it was okay. It tasted like most Thai Iced Teas, but the cream or whatever used was stronger and a little different.

This is a unique little hole in the wall place in Vernon Hills, next to Dominick's. They have a great, cheap lunch buffet, that has about eight options but the amount of food is always bountiful and you never have to wait for them to bring out more, even during peak lunch hours. Their pad thai is a little different from your typical variety, it's a little bit spicier and of a different texture. I would not recommend the curry chicken, the curry is poor, but everything else here is delicious!

If I can create a Hall of Shame list on Yelp, this restaurant deserves a spot on the list. I ordered a beef dish and Pad Thai in my visit. The beef is chewy, they possibly use bottom round roast or some cheap cut. I'm not a good cook and I can easily replicate that kind of dish and sauce. Pad Thai is a nightmare. The rice noodle is dry, and I don't even know what kind of sauce they used, and taste somewhere between ketchup and sweet and hot sauce. It's almost like you order Filet-O-Fish from McDonalds and they give you a sandwish with ketchup instead of mayo. Just awful. It's definitely the worst Thai restaurant I've ever been to, and quite possibly the worst restaurant I've ever been to.

  • Kearsten D.

I would definitely not recommend this restaurant if you're looking for good service or good Thai food. We were seated before several others yet they got their food well before us, we were there for 45 minutes before we got our food. Ordered Tom Yum soup that was tasteless (no cilantro or lemongrass) and Pad Thai that was inedible. Our first and last time going to this restaurant.

  • Sy S.

With out a doubt, THE WORST "THAI" FOOD I HAVE EVER EATEN! I guess I am stupid because I even tried it a second time just to see if it was a bad day for them. Seriously, it was so unbelievably bland it was inedible both times! If you are in the area, try out Thai Noodle Cafe in Libertyville. It is off of Milwaukee in a house that you could miss if you blink, but it is some of the best Thai food I have ever had in the entire Chicago area (even including the city which says a lot)!

Was surprised how good the food was as we had eaten here once before and it was kinda so so.Glad we went back well done Tasty Thai !!! Everything was good even the appetizers food was hot and TASTY :) Waitress and very attentive and the place was clean.

I received a generous portion of Chicken Pad Thai along with 2 egg rolls for $6.95. The Pad Thai was good (not as flavorful as Lovely Thai in Grayslake but good). The egg rolls were exceptional. I took it to go, so I can't review the service; however, the gentleman at the front counter was polite and very friendly.

The food has gotten better!! They have a new cook! A thai guy and his wife.....so the food is very consistent and back to the way it used to be years ago!! I am so happy!!

I did not know this place serves buffet, but I don't think I will be back. A tradition thai place owned by hispanics. The food was tasty but not authentic. I ordered the pad see eew, I asked for tofu and veggie and they charged me extra? Doesnt pad see eww already comes with veggie anyways? Tofu should be cheaper than any of the meats they usually pair it with. My friend ordered the pad thai, it was alright, she said the sauce was different than how pad thai should taste. The food came out pretty slow. We came in on a Sunday night and we were the only people in the restaurant other than 1 other party.

Everything was too sweet... Service was good they guys came by few times .. but food sucks lacks flavor and is too sweet ... Our appetizer soup rice and noodles all had SOOO much sugar or sweet and sour sauce zzzNeeds a little salt and tartness in some dishes ...

We ordered catfish fillet from this place and there were 2 piece of fish here. The pieces were the size of chicken chop. We called the manager and he said that they cannot do anything because it was suppose to be like that. It was 13dollars after tax, and definitely not worth the deal... DO NOT ORDER FROM THIS PLACE.

    (1)
  • Chelsea T.

The location of Tasty Thai might be a bit off-putting at first, but it is definitely worth checking out. I usually order their chicken pad Thai and have never been disappointed. They have generous portions that always last me more than one meal. I'd recommend it!

If you have never had Thai food and are looking to try it, do NOT get the lunch buffet! You will think Thai food is a lot like Americanized, over-sweetened Chinese food, and not the culinary delight that it is...or should be! I am visiting the area, and when I saw there was a Thai buffet, I had to try it. I should have taken into the consideration the relatively low number of stars, but...I was optimistic. The food was pretty sub-par. greasy, bland spring rolls (seriously - how can they mess these up?!?), old-tasting tempura (I got there just after they opened), bland curry, and (the biggest tragedy!) the pad thai was terrible. It tasted like the time I tried to make it using a sauce from the grocery store - too sweet, over-sauced, over-cooked, gluggy noodles. Very NOT impressed! When I was asked how the food was, I had to struggle for a minute before I said "ok." Because it really wasn't. Beyond the food, I felt I was rushed out. I was on my own and, although there were plenty of tables available, they dropped off the check before I was finished and then kept stopping by and acting perturbed when they saw I still hadn't put up a credit card. So then they ignored my empty glass. At one point one of the staff came by and added another $2 to my check. WHAT? When I asked, he said refills were't included. When I told him I had specifically asked and had been told they were, he frowned and took the extra fee off. All told, I paid $15 (I still tipped...conditioning, I think) for a meal that left me unsatisfied and irritated. In retrospect, I should have gone one door over and tried the Indian place, or gotten a cheeseburger at the hamburger place on the corner. Or gone to Wendy's! Any of those would have been better...they sure couldn't have been worse!

Good, descent Thai food. Although fairly clean, it's not the best environment for a nice dinner date. It's better as a takeout/delivery place. The offer some authentic Thai dishes such as the Larb and Papaya salad.

Best Thai buffet I have ever been to! Every time I'm back home for Christmas-this is one place I have to eat at!

  • Rob S.

This Thai spot left a lot to be desired. Wife had the pad Thai I had pad see ew. The pad Thai sauce did not have the sweet peanuty flavor you find in pad Thai, rather it had a red pepper flavor. The Thai wing appetizer was flavorless and the sauce was funny and didn't stick to the meat. Their spring roll was wrapped with a flour tortilla. Pad see ew had very little flavor. The one saving grace was the tom kha soup which was good.

It's been quite some time so here is a quick update. I continue to eat the buffet exclusively so I can't speak to ordering off the menu. Lately the food seems to be hit or miss. When they miss the food is still decent, it just isn't as good as it used to be. They've become a bit slower at refilling the buffet so if you're there during the peak part of lunch you may be without some items for a bit. The service is still very good at clearing the table and refilling beverages.

My wife and I love this little gem. We just recently discovered it. They have 5 dollar glasses of wine. I was surprised when the Cabernet I ordered was very bold and delicious. I usually get chicken pad Thai and it is delicious. I hope this place stays in business. very reasonable night out.

A perfect rating for a perfect meal. Probably the best $50 I will spend for awhile. -Spring rolls (not the greatest) but then again i'm not a huge fan to begin with. -Spicy catfish, while not the best i've had, it's faaar from the worst. Very delicious and the red curry it soaks in is amazing. -Pad see ew. Had the beef like I always do and it ranks up there. Add some chili sauce and feast! -Panang curry chicken. Yummy yellow curry sauce with less than average chicken pieces but still drooooool. I was looking for a good Thai joint around my work and I've found it. Had take out, the place is small but has that Thai vibe. the buffet looks a bit... meager and from the reviews I'll probably stay away. The food IS good, maybe GREAT though.

I love good Thai food after hard day of work. Last two times when we went food was good but it made the whole house smell fishy even though it had nothing but chicken. If it is for cravin emergency, it will do the job but if you arevery sensitive with smell like us, search must go on.

I stopped here with my friend for lunch one day because we were in the area and craving Thai food. We saw Tasty Thai snuggled into the shopping center and decided to give it a try. When we entered we saw that they offered a small lunch buffet and we thought it would be fun to expand our palates with new flavors. I always default to pad see eew at Thai places so I really wanted to try new things while still having some of my favorites. The interior is a bit blah. Nothing exciting. The buffet was very small and limited. The couple dishes they had out were very small portions. I thought this might be a good thing. They would replace it more often and it would be fresh, right? Not really. They let them sit there empty for quite a while. I was disappointed because I never got to try to pad see eew. The soup was only broth. Eventually they came out and dumped some frozen veggies in it. Overall, the food that was there really was tasty. The atmosphere and service was kind of lacking. It was a quick and cheap lunch. I probably would not do the buffet again though.

Didn't even walk in the door. Was too horrified that they had a it sign on their door turning away groupon customers. I don't care what your issues are with your marketing company. Don't take it out on your customers. I didn't even have a groupon. Went to BoBo's next door instead!

  • Ray F.

Their $8.95 lunch buffet is the best deal in town. Get there early because they tend to have a hard time keeping up with refilling the trays when it gets busy. I've been there a couple of times for dinner, but neither me nor my wife were impressed. For a Thai dinner you're much better going to nearby Green Basil.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
